These are the things I will miss the most after the market closes… AND possibly where you can get them.
Pushed to choose just one most beloved item from my market it is no doubt, cheese. And though there are some of the cheeses I used to carry in Rochester, I was able to put my hands on the more unusual ones. I’m particularly sad about losing those. I have found Mt Tam occasionally at the BIG Hyvee off of CR 22. Though tackling that store to shop for just two people at home ends up to be daunting.
Most of the “mainstream” cheeses are available at the other Hyvee’s, and by mainstream, I’m referring to Midnight Moon from Cypress Grove to name just one. The BellaVitano brand is easy to locate and exists at Trader Joes under the Joe brand. I think Trader Joes also has a decent Delice de Bourgogne. The Co-op has carried my favorite burrata from Vermont’s Liuzzo Cheese. That little bundle of sweet, slightly salty, creamy, oh so fresh, milky taste is exceptional and sorry, BelGioioso doesn’t even come close. Of course, it’s fabulous with heirloom tomatoes but fresh peaches and balsamic or FRESH Figs… ah, I hope I can get my hands on that again sometime, sigh.
I actually haven’t quite come to terms with the loss of cheese yet. I have however gotten things together and started the sale of shelf items. There are some items that have a place in my heart, and I will share them with you and the bargain prices over the next few weeks. I keep adding to my stash to take home. Will work for food has always, actually (haha out of necessity), been my motto. It was worth it!
O OLIVE OIL & VINEGAR was one of the first few products I added in 2009. O Olive Oil is the premier producer of California specialty olive oils and wine vinegars. O was the first in this country to crush organic citrus with olives to produce their signature line of oils. The oils and vinegars are sold in gourmet, natural food and specialty stores in the United States, Canada, Japan and Europe, and Latin America. And, of course, Amazon, so when you need some, I have researched, it’s there!
In the citrus line, I love the Grapefruit Olive Oil. It is fabulous on vegetables like steamed asparagus or roasted broccoli. I particularly love it on avocados. I have drizzled it over crab cakes and grilled shrimp I have whisked it together with champagne vinegar for a lovely vinaigrette and even subbed it out for traditional olive oil in the classic olive oil cake recipes. Here’s on to try from Food and Wine.
All the oils are fabulous, and 25% off until they are gone! Same deal for the lovely vinegars with tarragon being my current fave and yes, would be fab with grapefruit olive oil. Read more about these delicious oils and get recipes right here. Don’t miss out on the best deal ever. ZZest Market is open Mon-Friday 11 am to 5 pm until about Sept. 1st.
